The names of Redfearn, Chambers, Barrett, Huntley, Watts and Rivers are associated with the area’s early plantations.  A history of the Redfearn family relates the great destruction of foodstuff and stocks during the invasion.  The family home stands a few miles southwest of the White Store Community Center.

In 1750, Anson County stretched from Drowning Creek, the western border of Moore County, through present-day western North Carolina and the state of Tennessee to the Mississippi River. Anson County was bound on the south by South Carolina and on the north by Virginia.  In 1789, North Carolina ceded to the United States all of her territory lying between the Alleghenies and the Mississippi.  In 1796, this ceded region was admitted to the Union as the State of Tennessee.
