When Susie Redfearn was born in 1882 in North Carolina, her father, Edward, was 37, and her mother, Caroline, was 28.
Susie gave birth to seven children: Abe Redfearn, Ned Redfearn, Wade Redfearn, Jennie B. Redfearn, Joel Redfearn, Elizabeth Redfearn and Thomas Redfearn. [Note: 1920 Census – two years before birth of Elizabeth and her last child, Thomas was born, she had five children already.
During 1910 Census she was living as a boarder in the house next door to her sister, Rachel and Rachel’s son Charlie.
During the time of the 1940 U.S. Federal Census, she and her son Thomas was living in Chesterfield, South Carolina where she is working as a live-in Cook. She is documented as widowed.
Her lifelong occupation was as a Cook. Her family members continue to share her numerous delicious recipes, as passed on by her daughters. She is listed as single in the 1920 Census but is listed as widowed in the 1940 Census.
After seven strokes, she passed in 1965 at the age of 83.
